Black Ops, FBI agents, an archaeologist, the United States President and thousands innocent people at risk formulate what can be described as a big success for Ronie Kendig!
The book starts with a part of the Bible, when God’s wrath was set upon those that defied Moses’s authority. This gives the frame under which the whole story is going ti swing. Then the actual story starts with Cole “Tox” Russell, a persona non grata to the United States. He is the ultimate warrior, highly trained, who after an unexpected turn of events had to flee the States and his loyal team, to keep the balance. When the President, his own brother, calls him back on a mission, he cannot refuse. The story complicates more, as it is infused with historical flavors, by the founds of a dig in Saudi Arabia that mean much to the Jewish people. It escalates more as along with the findings, the diggers come up with a plague deadly as the black death that is threatening to break out to the whole world before cure is found.
Kendig has done an excellent job offering a fast paced suspense military action book. But it not just about that. The pinch of spirituality and mysticism it includes gives it the needed touch to differ from the rest military books out there. Yes, it does contain all the military strategy and tactics, but it differentiates to the point of the hidden story and the characters that support it, thus making it a whole other kind of book.
“Conspiracy of Silence” is the first book of the “Tox Files” series. There is also a prequel novella that gives a hint or two about Russell himself, his team and a couple more characters in this book, as well as to an incident mentioned as the story evolves. However, even though the details are not available, it is not hard to go by without reading the prequel first. All the missing parts are being filled in sooner or later, so no empty spots are left for the reader to worry about.
The author has the ability to actually transport the reader to the scene, making them part of the action, the team, the scenery. All combat action is described so vividly, that would easily turn the action movie switch in the reader’s brain. The fact that the interest and agony is not lost throughout the whole 416 pages (!) is a high accomplishment! Not many authors can manage! It’s a book hard to let go!
